Castelan Mexican Sterling Silver and Enamel Combination Brooch/Pin-Pendant

Vintage Castelan Mexican Sterling Silver and Enamel
Combination Brooch/Pin-Pendant
Figural Eagle Bird Serpent Snake Quetzalcoatl
Probably 1940's - 1950's
Marked: Castelan 0.925 MEX STERLING

Measures 2 and 1/16 inches by 2 and 1/16 inches.

The inside diameter of the loop for hanging on
chain or necklace is 1/4th of an inch.

HallMarked: Castelan 0.925 MEX STERLING

The delineated  Eagle mark is only partially impressed, so
the number inside is illegible. According to The Little Book of Mexican
Silver Trade and Hallmarks: Hecho en Mexico By Bille Hougart, 2006,
Pages 37 and 38, the Eagle number should be 15 were it legible.

No one seems to know who Castelan was or is. The work is very much
like Margot De Taxco's designs. Number 15 was assigned to Los Castillo,
but there has never been any connection between the 2 discovered and
documented.
